Cavachon History

Cavachon dogs are crossbreed that results from breeding a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a Bichon Frise. The Cavachon dog breed is relatively new but has origins from North America during the 1990s.

Cavachons are a lot of fun and good for families that live in smaller apartments. That’s because their ancestors, the cavies, made them quite different from other breeds. They are loving and playful and make great pets!

Bichon Frise

This breed of dog has a long history and little is actually known about its origins. It was introduced to France during the Renaissance period, but it is unclear how this breed arrived in America. The Bichon Frise became popular with dog guardians sometime in the 1950s and has continued to be a very popular dog breed ever since.

The small and nimble nature of the Bichon Frise is an excellent quality that has endeared these dogs to people since ancient Rome and Spain. They have always been sought out for their cute factor. There are many different colors and weights to choose from. Because they’re so small, they make great companions for children.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel originated in England but was only recognized as a breed recently. It wasn’t recognized by the AKC until 1995.

Cavies have experienced a lot of growth in the past few years. They are small, friendly, and easy to care for. They are also a great option if you’re looking for your first pet or if living on your own is not an option because they don’t require too much space. Cavies can weigh anywhere between 13 and 18 pounds and come in many different fur.

Cavachon Size

The Cavachon is an extremely new breed, so there isn’t a lot of standardization as to size. That said, as a mix between the king Charles cavalier and the bichon frise parents expect Cavachons to be on the smaller side. Most Cavachons weigh between 15-35 pounds and are 12-13 inches tall at the shoulder. However, with proper care, some can be smaller or larger due to their breeds.

Cavachon Personality

Most Cavachons are described as being “happy.” They’re small, but they’re full of energy! They love being indoors as much as outside and will often take a nap on your lap when you get home. They like to be with a person that they know is going to provide them with safe and reliable affection. They are very easygoing and enjoy it when their favorite person is close to them.

They are not the most efficient nor lazy, but they are not tied to their posts inside, either. For average dogs, they should have no problems with keeping up with your home’s day-to-day activities. Their parents might sound different but, it’s not easy to see which traits are dominant. Getting to know them will help you decide. If you take them out for a walk, these dogs are extremely friendly. They’ll soak up the attention and socialize with every passerby they encounter.

Cavachons are smart and eager to learn. Make sure to keep training sessions short and to the point so they don’t get overly stimulated. Be consistent, and be gentle. Many dogs don’t react well to negative feedback. If you want your pet to stay on track and eager to please, start by giving them positive feedback. Your pet will appreciate that attention, even if it comes from the most unexpected of places.

Children Compatibity

Cavachons are great family dogs. They can be calm and gentle but also playful and fun. Additionally, they provide a secure and loving environment for children as well. They enjoy palling around with kids, playing games or being in the lap of a child. They’re very tolerant of noise and commotion associated with children

You should always teach children how to approach and touch your dog well. Always supervise any interactions between dogs & children to make sure they don’t cause a bite or ear pulling or tail pulling on either side. Your child should never approach any dog while they’re eating, sleeping or offering to take the dog’s food away.

Pet Compatibilty

Cavachons are usually social with other dogs, and can get along better than some breeds that aren’t so sociable. They can also be more successful if they’re given proper training and introductions to their new pet-filled home.

Coat Colors

Cavachon coats are often a mix of their Cavalier King Charles and Bichon Frise parents’ coats, colors, and mixed patterns. The main colors of Cavachons are chocolates, cream, white, and pied (pied being like tan on the dog). Few coats are solid in color. Almost all have a combination of colors.

Grooming

A Cavachon is a good option for people wanting a low-maintenance dog that’s not too long-haired. They have medium coats and many features to make them more allergy-friendly.

Bath time is as easy for your dog as brushing, which should be done every week to keep your pup clean and healthy! The groomer can also help you find a strategy for keeping your fur coat nice smelling without too much effort. They’re not well-suited for outdoor activities when the weather is hot. You may need to apply sunscreen to protect them from the sun in the warmer months.

Cavachon Health Issues

Owners of Cavachons should watch out for different health issues that may occur with this breed. Most are otherwise healthy and can live regular lives with proper care, which is why owners should take good care of their dogs and pay attention to common health problems.

Some of the more common health concerns for Cavachons sometimes crop up include Mitral Valve Disease, Heart Murmur, Syringomyelia, Atopic Dermatitis, Cataracts, Cushing’s Disease, and Patellar Luxation.

Food and Diet

The ideal Cavachon diet should be formulated for a small breed with moderate energy. Keep in mind that Cavachons may gain weight if they are overfed, so be careful and take care of your Cavachon’s diet. Limit their amount of protein, carbohydrates, and fat according to the size of their body & environment.

If you’re curious about your Cavachon’s dietary needs, it would be best to start with its diet as a puppy. When they reach adulthood, it’ll become necessary to change their diet due to possible differences in health conditions or bodily changes that occur throughout the years.

You should ask your veterinarians for recommendations about your Cavachon diet. There is a lot of variation in how different dogs eat, so you can’t make any exact recommendations for him. You’ll want to find out what he likes best before you start giving him specific food & recipes.

You should always measure the food your Cavachon is eating and feed them twice a day. Make sure you’re consistently doing this as soon as you notice if they’re too heavy by giving them a look-over or getting down to their level to check how they’re moving.

As with all dogs, keep up with your Cavachon’s regular veterinary checkups and make sure he is healthy. The vet can provide you a draft care plan (for routine checks) to help you take care of him.

Although their activity levels are moderate, Cavachons require more walks & activities to stay in good spirits than what many other breeds would require. These breeds should be walked daily (at least) & they should also take part in playtime. Keep an eye on your dog’s ears for any signs of debris or pests, and clean them as recommended by your vet. This will help to keep your dog healthy & happy.

Regularly trim your dog’s nails before they become too long. They shouldn’t be clicking at the floor and you should let your groomer help you with that. It is important that you brush your Cavachon’s teeth daily, as small breed dogs are prone to dental issues. Your vet can guide you on how to brush your dog’s teeth properly.

A Cavachon is a toy breed that doesn’t require much exercise. They can be perfectly happy just watching the birds through the windows of your home or office. Though they aren’t high-energy dogs, they may still see something and dart after it. Make sure that you keep them on a leash when you’re outside so they don’t get too excited or jump into an unexpectedly

Cavachons are cute and people love to have them around. However, they can be quite destructive if left alone for a long period of time or when they’re feeling lonely.
