Puggles Coat Color And Grooming

This dog has a smooth, short, double coat. The undercoat is short and dense and covered by a slightly longer topcoat. Colors include red, black, fawn, tan, lemon, or any of those colors with white. Some Puggles dogs have black masks on their faces.

Puggles have fur coats that shed and need to be regularly brushed. Bathing your Puggle too often could cause dry skin. Be sure to keep the folds on their coat free of dirt and debris to prevent infection..

After bathing your dog, make sure that you dry them thoroughly between their rear legs and under their tummy. Check your dog’s eyes for any signs of irritation or redness to help limit any future damage.

Have your Puggle brushed at least two or three times a week to avoid tartar buildup? This will help you avoid bacteria. Daily is the best way to take care of them.

Keep your dog’s nails trimmed. If they drag on the floor, they’re too long. Short nails are less likely to scratch your legs and will keep their paws healthy too!

Start grooming your Puggle when he’s not out of the womb to establish a routine. Handle his paws frequently, and look inside his ears to make sure there doesn’t seem to be anything obstructing the ear canal.

Schedule easy veterinary exams when your pup reaches adulthood so you can build a positive relationship with your companion.

Children And Pets Compatibilty

It’s a great idea to add a Puggle to your family! The pup is sweet & easy-going, and will be close friends with kids of all ages!

But, it’s important to also teach children how to approach and touch your Puggle and supervise their interactions with other dogs. You can prevent biting or ear pulling from either party by having your child learn how to do this before they ever meet up with a dog in person.

Puggles can be sociable and generally do well with other dogs and other pets.

Puggles may sometimes chase smaller animals, but you can minimize this behavior if you teach them to behave in a certain way and spend ample time playing with smaller animals early on.

Puggles Health Issues

There are still a lot of health risks that come along with Puggles, but it’s important to be aware if you want to purchase this breed. You should also read up on them so you know what all the potential problems might be if your chosen dog happens to have any or all of these. Some health issues of Puggles are listed below:

  • Stenotic Nares- pinched nostrils
  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Patellar Luxation
  • Epilepsy
  • Cherry Eye

Caring

Puggles are best suited to living indoors with a family, not outside. So long as they’re indoor dogs, they’ll adapt to any living situation. Dogs love staying indoors, and while apartments may not exactly be your first choice for them (indoor living can be monotonous), apartments are still a good idea. However, since their ancestry includes Beagles, some of them are known to howl.

Puggles can be stubborn but provide a lot of personalities! Positive reinforcement techniques such as food rewards, play, and praise are best to train them. By exercising regularly, you can ensure that they don’t become unruly.

Take your Puggle out for walks regularly, and make sure that you’re taking him on a leash. Beagles may ignore commands when they’ve discovered an interesting smell, and some Puggles have a tendency to run off.

Food & Diet

When feeding your dog, it is recommended that you give him a high-quality food daily, divided into two meals. It’s wise to keep in mind the serving size so you don’t end up overfeeding and also make sure to divide his meal into proper portions.

How much your dog eats will depend on his age, size, build and other factors. There isn’t a set amount of food that all dogs need.

Keeping your dog well-balanced with the right amount of exercise and food is important. For example, a couch potato breed will need less, while a highly athletic dog will need more. It almost goes without saying that your dog will find more happiness from getting decent food, who wouldn’t love you for that?

Puggles are like their parent breeds in that they enjoy their meals and are prone to obesity. It is best to measure the food and feed your dog twice a day rather than leaving food out all the time.

If you’re unsure whether he’s overweight, try testing his waist and his hands. First, look down at him. You should be able to see a waist. Then place your hands on his back, with your thumbs along the spine, and your fingers spread downward.

It’s important to be in a position where you can feel your dog but not see his ribs. If it’s hard for you to do this, he needs less food and more exercise.
